Keynote Address: Outsourcing, E-Commerce, and the Promise of the Internet
Speaker: Dennis Chookaszian, Retired Chairman & CEO – CNA Insurance
By using Web-based applications, virtual private networks, and third-party outsourcers, insurance companies may be headquartered in one place, but systems may be more spread out. This is good and bad. It’s more disaster resistant, but it can be difficult to manage. It allows greater flexibility with employees and vendors, but introduces a new set of security problems. How has “carrier sprawl” affected the IT department? Strategic thinking? Costs? Claims? And what’s next?

10:00 am – 10:45 am    General Session

Opening General Session: Trends, Techniques & Technology Driving the Insurance Industry

Join some of the best minds in the business as they offer a compelling perspective on what’s next for insurance in an Internet world.

Speaker: Cathy Ellwood, Director of Corporate Strategy – Nationwide Insurance

Build vs. Buy vs. Outsource
Moderator: Mark O’Brien, VP of Client Services – Martino & Binzer
Speakers:

Wayne Fell, President CEO, ARM, AIC – Member Insurance Company
Steve Canty, Sr. Vice President, Claims – Main Street America Group

When it’s time to implement new software, carriers are faced with a tough question: build it themselves (for the ultimate control), buy a product and have it customized (easy, but costly), or outsource the process (less control, fewer worries). In this lively, informative, and potentially contentious discussion, carriers who have tried each tact talk about what went right, what went wrong, and why they made the choice they did.

The High-Tech Claims Investigator

Speaker:  Dallas Dawley, Assistant Vice President, The Hartford

Up to 75 percent of a carrier’s costs come from one department: claims.  Sometimes fraud is easy to detect, but many times it’s not.  Technology to the rescue”  Hardware, software, tools, and techniques for investigating claims and detecting fraud can save you millions.  Unless you can afford to ignore the bottom line, don’t miss this session.
